Concept

Adaptive site-specific installation running continuously for 60 hours. 288 speakers (Wavefield Synthesis) positioned 2 meters above ground, arranged forming rectangular surface of approximately 60 m². LED panels closed space between speakers and floor, creating fully immersive environment.

In September 1774, explorer James Cook "discovered" Sandy Island in the Coral Sea. For two centuries, the island appeared on maps and charts, until in 2012 Google Maps removed it following scientific expedition that definitively certified its non-existence.

The Sandy Island affair is blunder of reason, embodiment of how fallacious our abilities to discern between representation and reality are. What happens when perspective is reversed, and stage becomes instrument to give shape to paradoxical encounter with place that is also projection of absence? The intervention is inseparable from place that hosts it—sound and visual materials are direct emanation of it. Each presence recorded by system through microphones, and AI modifies evolution in long term, defining path based on shared memory of collective deception.

Realized in collaboration with Lucas Xerxes (sound diffusion), KLARA Janina Luckow (floor projection), and Alessandro Alessandri (3D modeling)
